On Friday, passengers traveling on the Yesvanthpur-Howrah Duronto Express were clean-shaven after a bogie on the train derailed near Haridaspur station in the Jajpur district of Odisha.
According to preliminary reports, two front wheels of the Yesvanthpur-Howrah Duronto Express parcel van jumped onto the tracks near the station. Sources said other than the generator bus, no other damage was reported in the incident. However, traffic on the road was affected.
âWe heard a loud noise and the train stopped. Later we learned that a car on the train had derailed, âsaid a passenger from Vijayawada.
The passenger further stated that since train traffic has been halted on the route, it is not clear whether services will resume and reach their destination.
Senior railway officials, on the other hand, said the affected car was next to the locomotive. There is no injury or causation and all passengers are safe. All passenger cars will be connected to another locomotive and the train will be sent to its destination, âsaid an official statement.
Senior officials further said the incident would not affect the movement of rail services on the Kharagpur – Bhubaneswar main line. The repair of the cars concerned will be carried out with immediate effect.
The divisional director of the railways, Khordha Road, along with a team of high-level ART officials reached the scene for an investigation into the derailment of the affected Parcel Van.
