Van Der Dussen stars again as South Africa goes 160-4 in first T20

St. George’s, Grenada, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – June 27, 2021): Rassie van der Dussen picked up where he left off in the Test series with half a century of unbeaten ability to carry South Africa to a competitive total of 160 for six against the West Indies in the opener of their T20 five-game international series at the Granada National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Fresh off a vital 75 round that saw the Proteas complete the two-game test series in Saint Lucia, the great right-hander stabilized his side’s innings.

He then gave the late impetus to get 56 undefeated out of 38 balls with four fours and two sixes after being batted.

Quinton de Kock, the man of the series in Tests, gave his team a good start before his demise for 37 at bowling Andre Russell which left the sleeves shaking in the middle of the overs.

However, van der Dussen’s experience proved invaluable with wickets falling around him as he was able to craft significant limit shots against an experienced and varied bowling attack from the West Indies.

Left arm spinner Fabian Allen finished with the best numbers of two for 18 while Dwayne Bravo also picked up two wickets, including David Miller who appeared in his 82nd T20 International, most by a South African.

The West Indies left out batsman Lendl Simmons and veteran point guard Fidel Edwards from their 13-man squad looking to redeem themselves for the test team’s appalling performance in both tests against the Proteas in the previous fortnight.

This is the first T20I meeting between the teams since the West Indies won a low-scoring duel in the 2016 World T20 group stage in India, which the Caribbean side won in a dramatic final against the ‘England in Kolkata.
