Craft shows, community meals, and the Turkey Trot take place in Cortez and Dolores
Holiday events and craft shows will be held in Dolores and Cortez after some were canceled last year due to the pandemic.
On November 25, Thanksgiving, Grace’s Kitchen and St. Barnabas Episcopal Church will host Montezuma County’s 19th Annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner.
Meals will be served take-out from noon to 2 p.m., and the location will be shared during registration. For delivery, register before noon on November 22. To volunteer, donate, or sign up for meals, email [email protected] or call 565-7865.
The Dolores Turkey Trot will be held on Thanksgiving Day at 9 a.m. in the Dolores High School parking lot. Disguises are encouraged. Bring non-perishable food, which will be distributed by the Dolores Family Project to residents.
On December 4th, the Dolores Community Center and Dolores River Brewery will host craft bazaars throughout the day.
The community centre’s craft show will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Santa will be visiting from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
This is the 30th year of the event, said organizer Ruby Gonzales.
“We have 53 suppliers. There is more interest and excitement this year after last year’s cancellations, ”she said.
Breakfast and lunch will be served by the Notre-Dame-de-la-Victoire Catholic Church.
The vendors are from the Four Corners area. Due to quarantines and cancellations last year, housebound artisans have been busy and have significant stocks, Gonzales said.
“The tables will be really filled with wonderful, beautiful, homemade items,” she said. “You can do all of your Christmas shopping in one day and then most people head to the Parade of Lights in Cortez.”
Also on December 4th, the arts and crafts show at the Dolores River Brewery will return with live music and refreshments. It works from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Local artists include Dunmire’s Flirt Skirts, Jennifer’s Asian Imports, Willy and Me Chocolates, Hands of the Heart Ceramics, and Moonflower Studio Embroidery.
After shopping in Dolores, check out the Four Corners Board of Directors Parade of Lights on December 4 in Cortez. The floats begin to line up at 4 p.m. on South Maple Street and the parade begins at 6 p.m. on Main Street.
“All of Santa’s Helpers” is this year’s theme. The last day to register is December 2 at 5 p.m. See the Journal article for a registration form or call 970-565-2000 ext. 117.
On December 22, a holiday lunch will be held at the Dolores Community Center at 11 a.m. Musician Ellis Miller will perform Christmas carols on piano and guitar. Donations for meals are encouraged.
