THE World Congress of Engineering, Science and Technology (ESTCON) is back and will be held virtually for the first time.
ESTCON 2020 is the sixth edition and due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, it will be held virtually from July 13 to 15.
Under the theme “Science, Technology and Humanities: Reinventing the Future”, the congress would cover a wide range of topics, from innovation, engineering and technology to the humanities, addressing the latest trends and challenges, said its president, Professor Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib.
It is organized by the Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) with the support of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Malaysian Academy of Sciences with the collaboration of Petronas, Yayasan UTP and the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) .
The congress will pave the way for industry, academia, government and the public to participate in global discussions.
It will cover a variety of topics including simulation, big data and analytics, augmented reality, autonomous robots and the Internet of Things as well as leadership and values, economics, communication and community.
Dubbed the largest congress in the world, nine international conferences will be held simultaneously, said Professor Mohamed Ibrahim, also vice-chancellor of the UTP.
“Each of these conferences will focus on different issues relating to their respective themes.
“The nine conferences are in tandem with the objectives and goals of UTP, and allow the university to open new frontiers, to do pioneering research, to create new technologies and to introduce solutions and innovative methods for sustainable development that will bring mutual benefits to society, “he added. .
The conferences are: International Conference on Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology (ICOGET 2020); International Conference on Civil, Offshore and Environmental Engineering (ICCOEE 2020); International Conference on Generation, Energy and Reliability (ICPER 2020); International Conference on Land Resources (ICER 2020); International Conference on Process Engineering and Advanced Materials (ICPEAM 2020); International Conference on Intelligent and Advanced Systems (ICIAS 2020); International Conference on Computing and Information Science (ICCOINS 2020); International Conference on Basic and Applied Sciences (ICFAS 2020); and the International Conference for Management, Social Sciences and Humanities (ICMeSH2020).
The event will bring together over 1,000 experts in various fields from 30 countries, with distinguished speakers sharing their expertise, including sustainability trends and issues from a global perspective.
One of the keynote speakers is Senapathy Gopalakrishnan, President of Axilor Ventures India. He will talk about sustainable technology.
Senior Fellow of the Malaysian Academy of Sciences, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri, Dr Zakri Abdul Hamid, will deliver his keynote address on Society 5.0.
Malaysian Center for Green Technology and Climate Change Chairman Professor Datuk Dr A Bakar Jaafar will share his perspective on future engineering.
Other speakers include Dr William Selvamurthy from India who will speak on the culture of innovation while Professor John Holbrey from Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland, will share his perspective on the chemistry of durability for life.
Another highlight is the virtual exhibition which will run alongside the conferences where industry players present their products, services and latest innovations.
