There were a lot of good performances for football players in Week 8 in the Spartanburg area, but these stood out.

Now readers have the option to vote for their favorite performance of the week.

Here are the nominees for the Herald-Journal Athlete of the Week for week 8. Voting for nominees will begin Monday and end at 4:00 pm Thursday each week. Each week, the Athlete of the Week will be named after 5:00 p.m. on the day the voting ends.

Here are the nominees for this week!

Miguel Dingle, LB, Byrnes

Just a junior, Dingle led a Byrnes defense that allowed just 184 total yards. He made 10 total tackles in the game and was a massive force all night long with several big hits.

He helped stop Dorman’s Demarius Foster from running over 50 yards. Dingle has become one of the best defensive players in the region this season.

Tyler Smith, RB, Gaffney

The Gaffney senior running back crossed the 1,000-yard mark. He did so in just eight games after running for 209 yards in the Indians’ victory over Ford Nation.

He also rushed for two touchdowns in the game, averaging over 125 rushing yards per game.

Ezequiel Lazarin, K, Chesnee

Lazarin played the hero role for the Eagles on Friday. With a 24-yard boot, the kicker sent Chesnee home with a win over Landrum to take the Eagles to 1-1 in the Region 2-AA game.

His kick increased over time and sealed what was a comeback victory for Chesnee. Chesnee trailed 20-7 early in the fourth quarter.

Nehemiah Cochran, WR, Woodruff

Cochran was a beast on Friday: he made four catches, all four went for touchdowns in Woodruff’s big regional win. Carson Tucker and the wideout connected for the four passes that gave Cochran a total of 129 receiving yards.

Jamir Dewberry, RB, Broome

Dewberry had a huge game on Friday with 137 rushing yards, two rushing yards, 90 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He’s been one of the best in his job this season – and confirmed that fact on Friday.
