The works went under a hammer at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino, known for its extensive art collection, ahead of what would have been the Spanish painter’s 140th birthday.
The jewel of the MGM Resort auction collection was “Femme au beret rouge-orange” (“Woman with a red-orange cap”), one of the artist’s last portraits of Marie-ThÃ©rÃ¨se Walter, with whom he started an affair with when she was 17, and has inspired many of her most famous works.
It sold for almost $ 40.
