The State Election Commission (SEC) held a high-level meeting on Saturday to discuss the Covid-19 situation in Odisha ahead of the upcoming Panchayat polls in the state.
The meeting was chaired by State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi and attended by Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Kumar Jena, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Department of health and family welfare, Raj Kumar Sharma and other senior officials of the Department of Health.
SEC Aditya Prasad Padhi then spoke at a press conference where he said, “The discussion at today’s review meeting focused on the safety of the people in the three-party elections. Panchayat levels. The state government made a presentation on the current Covid situation in Odisha. A detailed discussion took place on how the security of voters, representatives of political parties and election officials can be maintained during elections.
SRC Pradeep Jena said the current Covid situation in the state has been discussed between the SEC and the chief secretary, health ministry officials, ACS and other relevant officials. “They discussed the planning required for the initiation and completion of booster dose administration to frontline and health care workers,” Jena said.
“In addition, a global analysis of the Covid-19 situation was made during the meeting. The SEC will make the appropriate decisions on the conduct of the Panchayat polls, ”the SRC added.
