Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday launched a dedicated e-commerce platform to improve the incomes of the state’s coffee farmers on International Coffee Day. The CM also announced the establishment of two points of sale in the state.
In launching the website, Patnaik praised the coffee growers in the tribal area and said that the coffee grown in Koraput is of high quality and can become a famous brand in the country as well as abroad.
Stating that Koraput coffee has carved out a niche in just two years, the CM said the government has taken multiple initiatives to secure the benefits of tribal coffee farmers and to promote the drink.
Patnaik also announced the upcoming opening of two cafes named Koraput Cafe; one at Koraput and the other at Niladri Beach, Puri.
In addition to marketing Koraput coffee through TDCCOL, Coffee Development Trust in Koraput has taken up to 300 hectares of new and old coffee plantations.
It is relevant to mention that the cultivation of coffee transforms life in the tribal hinterland of the district. Koraput, being located at a height of 3,000 feet above sea level, is ideal for growing coffee due to its cool climate and rainfall. This local coffee is a 100% Arabica single origin coffee that will compete with the specialty coffee market in the near future.
