Obituary of Donald L. Smith – Akron Beacon Journal


Donald L. Smith, 99, died October 5, 2022. Born January 23, 1923 in Pontiac, Michigan, he lived most of his life in Cuyahoga Falls. Donald served in the US Coast Guard in the North Atlantic during World War II. He worked as an engineer for Ohio Bell and retired after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Co. Pioneers charity, Golden Agers Club, a life member of the First Evangelical Church, and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 83.

Predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Louise Smith; parents, Gilbert and Violet Grace Smith; and his brother, Harold Smith.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Mark) Wise; son, Randy (Sara) Smith; four devoted grandchildren, Jason (Sara) Miller, Brandon (Kim) Miller, Dustin Smith and Stefanie Wise; beloved great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Grace and Kyriella Noel Miller. favorite uncle of nieces, Sherry (Jim Behringer), Kimberly (Rob Hardy II) and Beverly Henry; nephew, Bruce Dauber; great-nieces and nephews, Andrea, Robert, Rob III, Scott and Kara.

Friends and family will be received Monday, October 10 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, OH 44312. A Masonic funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Lewis officiating and Scott Carr giving the eulogy. Interment will be at Northlawn Cemetery, 4724 State Road, Peninsula, OH 44264.
