On the Mat: Tristin won the Cobos Classic tournament at Avon Lake with four pins this weekend. Tristin also won the North Coast Classic tournament in Independence with four tech crashes on the weekend and a pin in the final. Tristin is now 16-0 on the season

Off the Mat: Tristin’s favorite subject at school is math, but she’s also an avid reader. Tristin’s favorite movie is Catch Me If You Can and loves baking for the wrestling team to enjoy in tournaments

Alex downing

Avon >> Swimming

Sophomore >> 100 fly / back

In the pool: Downing broke the Lorain County girls’ 400 free relay record and the Avon High School record in the Avon 400 free relay at the Northwest Classic in Bowling Green on Saturday in 3: 39.17. She also broke the Avon HS record and the 100m backstroke competition record (56.56) in the same competition. She then broke the competition record in the 200 medley relay (1: 48.80) to end the competition with three wins and a second place (100 freestyle).

Out of the pool: Downing started swimming at the age of six. His favorite memories are the Junior Nationals in Greensboro, NC, and meeting OHSAA High School State. She enjoys going to Crumbl Cookies with her friends and watching Ohio State Football.

Nate burnett

Senior >> 138 pounds

On the Mat: Burnett placed fourth at the prestigious Walsh Ironman tournament held at Walsh Jesuit High School. Walsh Ironman is one of the most competitive tournaments in the country, and in the process he has defeated two nationally ranked wrestlers. Last weekend he competed in the Carnahan Memorial Tournament held at Crown Point HS in Indiana. He again beat a nationally ranked wrestler, before falling to the nation’s number one ranked wrestler in his weight class.

Out of the Mat: Burnett’s nickname is Nate Dog and will wrestle collegially at Clarion University. Burnett’s favorite sport is wrestling and baseball, his hobbies are hanging out with friends, his favorite school subject is history, and his favorite food is mashed potatoes. Her favorite TV show is South Park, her favorite band is Pink Floyd, and her favorite sports teams are the Browns, Cavs and Clarion wrestling.

On the court: Last week, Houston recorded 19 points, six assists, 13 steals, (including 9 against Brooklyn, which tied a school record) and 13 deflections.

Off the Field: Houston’s favorite sporting memory is scoring 20 points against Brookside last season and only missing one shot from the field. Houston’s favorite pastime is hiking, her unique talent is that she can jump in a 44 inch box, her favorite restaurant is Olive Garden. His role model is his brother, Rocky Houston, who plays on the LCCC men’s basketball and baseball teams. Her favorite TV shows are All America and Outer Banks and her favorite music is Country.

On the pitch: This week in Eagle’s two wins, Liber recorded a total of 45 points, 16 rebounds, six assists, eight steals and one block

Off the field: Liber has signed up to the University of Saint Louis to play basketball. She enjoys going out to eat, cook and listen to music. Her favorite school subject is Math, her favorite food is chicken, her favorite athlete is LeBron James, and her favorite show is Outer Banks

Cassie wiersch

Freshman >> All Around

On the mat: Wiersch placed first on bars on her competitive debut in high school against Magnificat (host team), Lakewood and Rocky River on Monday, December 13. Wiersch also finished tied as Eagle’s gymnast with a score of 8.85.

Off the Mat: In addition to gymnastics in high school, Wiersch also competes for the X-treme Gymnastics club. She has been practicing sport for eight years. Her favorite gymnast is Simone Biles. Her favorite school subjects are math and art, and her favorite food is pasta. In her spare time, she enjoys going out with friends and cooking.

Emma Nolan

North Olmsted >> Gymnastics

Sophomore >> All around

On the mat: First meeting of the season for the North Olmsted Eagles against Brunswick High School, Berea-Midpark High School and Bay High School. Nolan took first place in all-around (36.3) and first on beam (9.5) and second in vault (9.2) bars (8.55) and floor (9.05).

Off the Mat: Nolan has been gymnastics since the age of six and his favorite event is the beam. One of his favorite memories is competing in state competition last year and finishing third on beam. Nolan enjoys hanging out with his friends and playing with his dog Carly. Her favorite color is pink and her favorite subject in school is math.
