Erie, Pennsylvania – Midfielder Robert rohrhirsch (Garching bei MÃ¼nchen, Germany / Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Garching / University of Applied Sciences Munich) scored his sixth goal of the season on a Joe falcone (Manlius, NY / Fayetteville-Manlius) assists in the 12th minute, but Le Moyne College men’s football fell down the road to non-conference opponent Mercyhurst University by a 4-1 score at Saxon Stadium on Tuesday after- noon, falling to 6-4-0 on the season.
Two Le Moyne players were sent off in the second half for receiving several yellow cards. Rohrhirsch received his second yellow card in the 50th minute, leaving the Dolphins to hold the score 1-1 with 10 men on the field. The task became even more difficult for Le Moyne when the defender Jonas Schmelcher (Berlin, Germany / Schul-und Leistungssportzentrum Berlin / Bridgeport) was sent off after receiving his second yellow card in the 69th minute and the Dolphins had to continue with nine players on the pitch, compared to Mercyhurst’s 11.
After Rohrhirsch’s opening goal, the Lakers wiped out the 1-0 deficit in the 40th minute when Sidney Warden calmly repelled a penalty.
With a two-man advantage, Mercyhurst took the lead in the 82nd minute when Salvador Rang scored an assist from Tom Barry. The Lakers extended their lead to 3-1 in the 85th minute when Sidney Warden converted another penalty. Carlos Cueva made it 4-1 Mercyhurst in the 89th minute when he scored an assist from Julius Becker.
The Le Moyne College men’s football team heads home for a Northeastern Conference-10 game against Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday, October 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Ted Grant Field.
