There are bright stars living and working in our community and we need your help to find the brightest stars through their efforts to make a difference.
Star of the State was created in 2020 to spotlight other Nebraska residents who are striving to make their communities better places to live and work.
The Lincoln Journal Star works with newspapers across the state to recognize and honor these champions of our way of life. Newspapers across the state will encourage readers to name people who have made it remarkable. Finalists will be selected from each region and one winner will be named as the State Star. The winner will receive a donation of $ 2,021 to a non-profit organization of their choice.
The 2020 Star of the State winners were Karen and Mandy Faripour, who founded 2 Strings for Lincoln, a group that organized more than 300 people to make and share 11,000 masks with seniors and healthcare workers across the ‘State during the pandemic. The Faripours have chosen two organizations on the front lines of the crisis – the Food Bank of Lincoln and the People’s City Mission – to receive their award.
This year’s special campaign is made possible by contributions from statewide sponsor, Woodhouse Auto Family. Local sponsors, Super Saver and McDonalds, are also among the supporters.
