Milan, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – November 22, 2021): Inter Milan bolstered their Serie A title defense on Sunday with an exciting 3-2 win over Napoli which put them four points behind the league leaders .
Simone Inzaghi’s side came back from Piotr Zielinski’s powerful initial strike to close the gap to Napoli and AC Milan, who lost 4-3 to Fiorentina on Saturday, in a thrilling meeting at San Siro.
Hakan Calhanoglu equalized the scores from the penalty spot midway through the first half. Ivan Perisic’s header just before the break and Lautaro Martinez’s clever finish after a thrilling climb from Joaquin Correa secured the points and an even more interesting three-lane title race.
“It was a very important game for us looking at the standings,” Martinez told DAZN.
âWe played well but every now and then the result was not good for us, but today the team played with intensity and character.
Napoli, who also scored thanks to Dries Mertens with 11 minutes left, lost their unbeaten league record just as Milan did in Florence after Samir Handanovic made a miracle save to keep Mario Rui from heading in stoppage of play.
And Mertens then lost an incredible chance to snatch an unlikely point with second place remaining when he skied Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa’s perfect cross, completely unmarked and at close range.
To make matters worse for Napoli, Luciano Spalletti also had to see two of his players faring worse in head clashes.
Star striker Victor Osimhen had to leave the pitch right after the break after he and Milan Skriniar clashed, with Spalletti saying after the game that he hoped it would be a facial injury and nothing more.
