HPU will set up high-tech classrooms | Chandigarh News


Shimla: Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) in Shimla will set up a high-tech virtual classroom in each teaching department.
Vice Chancellor Professor Sikander Kumar also said the university will also provide laptops to all teachers to boost online education. He said offers for the same have already been solicited.
According to him, the library’s digitization work has already been completed.
Prof Kumar said the university will provide 50,000 rupees to each teacher as project funding to produce quality research. He said that a grant of Rs 1 lakh is also given to each department for academic activities.
He said a supernumerary doctoral seat in each department has been reserved for faculty at the university. It is also a first that all departments have started to publish research journals. He said that in the past three years, 12 new teaching departments with innovative courses have been introduced and 153 teachers have been appointed. The university has also taken many steps to produce quality research. The state government is fully supporting these efforts, he added.
He said that in 2019, four new departments were established at the University Institute of Technology, including civil, electrical, electronic and communications engineering and applied and human sciences. Defense Studies, Library Science (UG & PG), Environmental Sciences and Microbiology were introduced last year.
Four new departments, including data science and artificial intelligence, forensic science, archeology and ancient history, and demographic studies were launched this year. Over 80% = syllabuses for all subjects have been updated, he added.
