A day after horrific visuals of Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev ramming his car into a crowd in Khordha district sent shockwaves across Odisha, BJP leader and national spokesman Sambit Patra demanded tough action on Sunday against the leader of the suspended BJD.
At least 22 people, including seven police officers, were injured in the incident which was reported outside the Banpur block office on Saturday. Eyewitnesses alleged the deputy was drunk when he rammed the vehicle into the crowd.
After getting information about the incident, the top BJP leader reached Bhubaneswar today. He will visit the injured being treated in hospital including AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
“Strong action should be taken against Chilika MP. His act defamed the image of Odisha as the people of the state are known and appreciated for their humility across the world,” Patra said.
Patra said the ruling BJD suspended Jagdev for assaulting a youth. Several allegations have also been made against the MP concerned for his unruly behaviour.
“It seems that Prashant Jagdev has learned nothing from his past mistakes,” he said. “The act of the deputy is certainly reprehensible. I urge the government of Odisha to take exemplary action against him,” Patra added.
