BMC will put signs on the car parks to fight against theft

In order to prevent the collection of exorbitant fees from vehicle owners at the city’s car parks, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to install road signs at all parking spaces.

In a key meeting, BMC officials decided on Monday that the signs would contain important information such as parking fees, parking zone, complaint numbers and the bidder’s name.

The civic body has identified 71 spaces in the capital and authorized these as parking spaces. Fifteen spaces among these have been identified as institutional parking spaces. Various offices and organizations have paid BMC to use these spaces for parking purposes. The remaining 56 spaces were auctioned for on-street and off-street parking.

Per BMC guidelines, parking will only be permitted in the stipulated area and vehicle owners will be charged as per the fee decided by the civic body. Any organization charging exorbitant parking fees will be penalized and their license will be revoked.

The civic body also decided to put the cell phone numbers of the ACP Area and Traffic Deputy Commissioner on the panel. Information about BMC’s website and Twitter account will also be posted on the sign for residents to file complaints.

In addition, zone teams will be formed to control illegal parking throughout the city. Regular training will be provided to transgender and other employees to collect parking fees online.
