NEW ULM – After a year off, Bavarian Blast is back at Brown County Fairgrounds July 15-18 with some new rides for 2021.
The pre-blast music begins at 4:30 p.m. on July 15 with Heide and the Good Ol ‘Boys from Sleepy Eye on Stage 1 at the fairgrounds.
“Free fall,” a group featuring the best hits of Tom Petty, follow from 6 pm to 8 pm on stage 4. The group which travels the country for almost 15 years, presents the instruments and the costumes which recreate a concert of Tom Petty.
“Going to the limit: a tribute to the eagles” is two bands. “Collective unconscious” and “The fabulous armadillos” with nine band members, including a brass section, will follow from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. on stages 1-3.
On Friday, July 16, the music kicks off at 11 a.m. in the Schell tent with the Concord Singers. Next come Mollie B., Dan Witucki, Alpensterne, The Concord Singers, Mollie B. Dan Witucki, Alpensterne, Southern Express from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the Fabulous Armadillos from 10 p.m. to midnight.
Based in the Twin Cities, Southern Express is billed as the Midwest’s first tribute to southern rock icons including Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allmann Brothers, The Outlaws and The Marshall Tucker Band.
The Shirts and Skins Band performs from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday in the Schell Tent. Their songlists feature contemporary pop, classic rock, funk, blues, classic and modern country.
The schedule for the Schell Sunday tents starts at 8:30 am with the Original German Band. Mollie B. will perform at the 10 a.m. church service, followed by the Municipal Orchestra at 11 a.m., Schell’s Hobo Band at 2 p.m. Music will continue until 7:30 p.m.
KNUJ Polka Hall groups start at 11 a.m. on July 16 with the Leon Olsen Show. The Dutch from Gary’s Ridgeland follow.
Groups on Saturday July 17 include the Wendinger Band and the Malek’s Fishermen.
On Sunday July 18, the Bavarian Blast Parade begins at 12:30 p.m. The Dutch in Dain play at 2 p.m., the Larry Olsen Band at 3:30 p.m. and the Dutch in Dain at 5 p.m.
The Bavarian Blast 5k / 10k run / walk returns. The team prizes will be awarded to the best thematic team and the largest team.
Saturday night, dog race at 1:30 p.m., barrel race at 3:30 p.m., sauerkraut tasting contest at 5:30 p.m. and mug holding contest at 7:00 p.m.
